Gaming is Fun

|

Okay, it's late, I'm tired, and I have to work tomorrow after a week of convalescing , but I just had to say that I love gaming -- Role Playing Games, and one particular campaign in specific. It's the story of two young boys who are saved from goblins by a great knight, and who raises them to be squires, then knights. I've been playing my character in this campaign since 1998 and he's a very big part of my imagination. We don't get to play all that often, but when we do -- it's always epic. The intricate lives of these two cousins is so fascinating, because we don't just slay evil and fight valiantly for what is just and good, but we have interpersonal conflicts, comedy, romance, drama, and we have been known to spend entire sessions deciding what to buy at the summer faire, or how to decorate our rooms. The world and the lives we have created are very rich and deep, and one day (soon) I hope to capture the saga in some sort of public fiction to share with the world. Okay, </geek>, I'm outta here, time to sleep.

It's hard to be philosophical, much less of anything else when you're tired. It's hard to sleep when all you seem to think about is that you had abdominal surgery just less than a week ago, and you aren't convinced that everything in there is tied down securely -- that organs won't shift around, and arteries open back up. And while you're mostly paranoid, you're partly right. And that's why it's quarter-till-four and I can't sleep. I have valium in the medicine cabinet, but I don't want to start that kind of habit. I would drink a glass of wine, except that will just make me groggy in the morning, and I've had a whole bottle today already. Okay, eyes are tired, it's now 4am. I'll give it a shot and try to crash out, despite my fears of my organs dislodging and my waking to a pool of blood and viscerae in my bed.

Gall bladder surgery

| | Comments (2)

Okay, this past monday the 23rd I had my gall bladder removed. I had been experiencing pains which really can only be summed up as feeling like someone was jabbing a knife in-between my lower right ribs, and wiggling it around. Having had back problems before, I had assumed the minor irritations I had been having (ribs hurting plus minor nausea) was the result of some misaligned ribs, that might have been pinching some nerve causing me to feel some stomach discomfort. Well, after buckling to my knees and screaming in front of my two-year-old who kept asking daddy to 'get up!', I decided to call the in-laws (Julie was away on business), and rush over to the hospital.

Okay, so everyone's got a blog these days -- why should I be any different? It seems like a good way to keep your page from getting to be prehistoric by providing an easy-to-use interface into changing the text on your page without mucking around in the HTML. Or, it's just another layer of bullshit to make you feel even more distanced from your creative life. Well, what makes THIS blog special (okay, well sorta special -- well, not that special) is that I installed and configured a blog package on my very own server, instead of just using the blogger.com site. It's called MoveableType, and it seems pretty groovy so far. It allows for a lot of interaction and configuration. I'm testing it out now, and this is the product of my work.
