Technorati and Del.icio.us tagging

I am attempting to get the technorati and del.icio.us tags automatically inserted into my entries using an applescript extension to marsedit. I've been using marsedit for a while now, and while I've really been enjoying it, I want to start understanding more about the blogosphere, and it appears 'tagging' is a big deal. I know, I know -- D'Arcy's gonna give me the WTF on this one, but I really don't know much about all the things you can do with blog entries, such as 'trackbacks' -- what the hell is a trackback, exactly, anyhow? And I'm part of Technorati, but I don't quite grock what it is just yet... not really. I kinda know it's about metadata tagging, but... how does it all come together? So file this one under blog newbie (t d), okay?
